What's it for?

Use this calculator tool to figure out the approximate length of an edge resulting from decreasing or increasing a number of stitches over a number of rows. This calculation is useful when you're trying to estimate the length of the perimeter of your knitting -- for example, the perimeter of a sleeve cap or armscye -- or when you're trying to figure out how to space increases or decreases so that the edge of the knitted piece will fit a certain length

It is the aim of enthusiasts to encourage and develop the international, multi-period study of knitting so successfully inspired by the late Montse Stanley.

In the 1990s Montse co-ordinated the hugely successful 'Early Knitting History Group' ("Loosely organised but highly motivated") which researched the subject up to the 16th century. We now hope and aspire to expand it further, to encompass those with later interests and wider knowledge of a neglected but increasingly popular subject.

Step back in time. Come and see this unique complex of listed frameshops, cottages and outbuildings arranged around a garden courtyard, together with a former chapel in which many of the knitters worshipped. The site has been restored to show the living and working conditions of the framework knitters who occupied it throughout the nineteenth centuy.

Ruddington Framework Knitters' Museum is a small independent working museum, established by the efforts of the local community, which saved it from the bulldozer and put it under the control of a charitable Trust.

That's why this site is here - to help you use up your stash, and to teach you some other tips and techniques on your crafting journey.

7   Link   Distance Knitting
I'd like to introduce myself; Fiona Morris. I have been knitting, designing and teaching knitting for many years. I started Distance Knitting to give knitters the opportunity to study the City and Guilds 7922 Certificate courses in Hand or Machine Knit Textiles as distance learning packages.

I teach the design and Craft courses at The Mohair Centre, near Lewes, E. Sussex, but for various reasons many interested knitters are unable to attend this course, so I have developed a distance learning version.
